They Might Be Giants Say ‘Join Us’ for Music Video Contest

Alternative rock duo They Might Be Giants is releasing its next album, Join Us, on July 19th, and the celebrate it’s holding a music video contest. Fans are encouraged to create a video for the album’s first single, “Can’t Keep Johnny Down.”

Creators should post their videos to YouTube and then post a link to the official TMBG Facebook page.

Videos can take any format, explains band member John Linnell in this YouTube video, such as live action, motion graphics, animation, or stop motion. They can even show people jumping around in capes.

“They must be very stylish people in very stylish capes or you will not win this contest,” Linnell advises.

Entrants have until July 15th to create and post their videos. Judging will take place on July 16 by John Hodgman, and the winner will receive $1,000 and the pizza of their choice from the pizzeria of their choice. Mmm, pizza.

The winning video will also be posted on the band’s YouTube channel and its podcast.

Join Us is TMBG’s first adult album in four years and promises a return to the off ball rock sensibility and catchy lyrics that first made the band famous.
