Monsoon Multimedia Brings TV Recording to the iPad and iPhone

The Vulkano line of set-top boxes made by Monsoon Multimedia gains a significant first today with the inclusion of iPhone and iPad recording. It could have business uses for sales teams or mobile workers who need to show off TV content while in remote locations.

The Vulkano Flow

Owners will need to download a software update to get the new feature. Once installed, they’ll be able to use the Vulkano Player for Flow and Blast app ($12.99) to not only control their set-top box, but also record to their portable device. Recording will occur if the set-top box and iOS device are on the same Wi-Fi network.

Recorded content is encrypted, so it will only play on the authorized mobile device. Content is recorded as H.264/AAC video, with 640 x 480 resolution for the iPad and 352 x 240 for the iPhone.

Monsoon has announced that apps for Android and BlackBerry portables will be available soon.

Interested users can get started with the Vulkano Flow set-top box for $99.

“The Vulkano line of devices has been created to offer consumers the ultimate flexibility in entertainment and we are proud to be the first to offer direct recording to mobile devices,” says Colin Stiles, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Monsoon.
