WordPress Blogs Gain Video Chat Thanks to TokBox

Adding group video chat is as easy as installing a plug-in, thanks to a release by TokBox. WordPress VIP blog owners can add video chats that display between one to ten chatters at the same time.

For viewers, the plug-in requires no work at all, since there’s nothing to download or install.

The plug-in lets site owners display video chats in several different ways, such as single presenter, presenter and spokesperson in different locations, or group interviews of up to 10 people in different locations. While those formats are meant to be public, the plug-in can also be used to create private chats for up to 10 people.

TokBox says there are currently 30 million WordPress VIP sites.

“The Web is meant to provide advanced levels of interaction, but sadly it has lagged significantly when it comes to interaction among multiple people or between multiple locations,” says Ian Small, TokBox’s CEO. “Any time you turn on the television you can see reporters and presenters from out in the field and in the studio come together and discuss the news of the moment. Until today you couldn’t do that on WordPress.”

The OpenTok Video Chat plug-in is available in the WordPress Plugin Directory as a free download.

  1. I have heard of TokBox a few times and never really gave them a good look. This integration has caught my attention for sure! While I haven’t checked out the plugin yet, in concept this could be very powerful!
