Video streaming service Ustream has announced two new options that will be welcomed by customers who want to generate a little revenue from their work or create an ad-free viewing experience.
Ustream Open PPV will launch in a few weeks, and will let broadcasters charge for content. To use the service, Ustream members will have to apply and be approved. The site hasn’t spelled out yet what the criteria is for approval, but a representative said that information was coming soon. The service is clearly meant to be used to occasional special events, not for every episode of a broadcast.
The Open PPV program is currently being tested by a few hand-picked Ustream broadcasters, but will open to everyone soon. Broadcasters who want to be notified when they can apply for pay-per-view approval can sign up at the Ustream PPV page.
Ustream has also announced Ad-Free Broadcasting, which will let broadcasters stream with no commercial interruptions. It will launch in early November. Ustream hasn’t yet said what the price will be for ad-free streaming.
“Pay-Per-View and Ad-Free are big opportunities for our broadcasters to use the Ustream platform in a different way. We’re excited about the possibilities these will offer our users and committed to bringing more new experiences to the Ustream community,” says Shari Foldes, Marketing Manager
